Federal help available to British Columbia following the Tumbler Ridge tragedy

The Government of Canada offers its deepest condolences to the community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia during this profoundly difficult time. We share in their grief and stand ready to provide whatever support is needed.
In addition to the ongoing efforts of the Government of British Columbia and the B.C. RCMP on the ground, the Government of Canada wants to ensure the community of Tumbler Ridge has quick and easy access to support programs, including mental health and victim services, income supports, and potential tax relief where required. These supports are flexible and can be adapted as provincial and community needs become clearer, with additional federal assistance available as required.

Service Canada
Service Canada officials are available to assist community members with in-person service at the Tumbler Ridge Library, and can provide additional support related to the following programs and benefits:
- Canadian Benefit for Parents of Young Victims of Crime
- Employment Insurance (EI) sickness benefits
- EI caregiving benefits
- Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits
Outreach Support Centre
Service Canada provides personalized support by telephone to clients who don't have access to a Service Canada Centre, the Internet or face other barriers to accessing our services.

The Outreach Support Centre can help you:
- complete Service Canada forms (Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Canada Pension Plan)

The CRA is committed to ensuring empathy and fairness for individuals and businesses unable to meet tax obligations during this challenging time.
Those affected by this tragedy who were charged penalties and interest to their accounts due to circumstances beyond their control, may submit a request for the cancellation of penalties and interest. All relief requests related to the Tumbler Ridge will be treated as a priority.
